Debate Topics
Evolution vs. Creation
The scientific theory of evolution explains the development of life on Earth over millions of years. Creationism, based on religious beliefs, describes the creation of life by a divine being.
How Did Life Begin?
This debate delves into the origin of life, exploring scientific hypotheses like abiogenesis, which proposes life arising from non-living matter, and creationism, which attributes it to divine intervention.
The Flat Earth Debate
A controversial topic, this debate examines the shape of the Earth. The scientific consensus affirms a spherical Earth, while the flat Earth theory suggests it's a flat disk.
Just War Theory
This philosophical concept provides ethical guidelines for engaging in war. It outlines criteria for justifying warfare, including self-defense and the protection of innocent lives.
Evolution vs. Creation
This debate topic is always relevant and exciting. Many Christians reject the theory of evolution. Christians who hold a literal interpretation of the Bible often believe that God created humans in their current form.
The Lion's Den Debate Club will explore the arguments for and against both sides. We will discuss the scientific evidence and the philosophical arguments for each position. This is a debate that will challenge your thinking and leave you with something new to consider.
How Did Life Begin?
This debate explores the scientific and philosophical perspectives on the origins of life on Earth.
The debate dives into theories like abiogenesis, panspermia, and intelligent design.
It examines the evidence supporting each theory, from geological records to molecular biology.
This debate is a crucial discussion on the nature of existence and our place in the universe.
The Flat Earth Debate
  • The Flat Earth Debate is an enduring topic of discussion that challenges the scientific consensus.
  • This debate explores the merits of the Flat Earth theory, which posits that the Earth is a flat disc rather than a sphere.
  • This debate often centers around scientific evidence, historical perspectives, and philosophical interpretations of the Earth's shape.
Just War Theory
This debate topic explores the complex question of when violence in conflict can be justified. It will consider the historical and philosophical arguments for and against Just War Theory.
Debate participants will analyze different conditions that may allow for the use of force, such as self-defense or the protection of human rights.
Calvinism versus Open Theism
Get ready for one of our most electrifying debates yet! This theological showdown tackles fundamental questions about God's nature, human free will, and the very fabric of reality. As two powerful worldviews collide, prepare for an intellectual journey that will challenge your deepest beliefs.
Calvinism
Calvinism stands as a foundational branch of Protestant Christianity that boldly proclaims God's absolute sovereignty. This theological heavyweight brings compelling arguments about divine predestination to our debate stage.
Calvinists argue that God's supreme power and perfect foreknowledge determine salvation from the beginning. They contend that divine choice, not human decision, ultimately determines who receives salvation – a position that has sparked centuries of passionate theological discussion.
Open Theism
Open theism presents a revolutionary perspective that challenges traditional views of God's knowledge. This dynamic theological framework has sparked intense debate by proposing a radical reimagining of divine omniscience.
Open theists will defend their provocative position that God's knowledge of the future remains open and dynamic. Their arguments emphasize a deeply personal God who genuinely responds to human choices – a view that promises to ignite fascinating debate discussions about divine-human relationships.
Once Saved Always Saved versus Continuance
This debate explores the complex question of whether someone who is once saved in Christ will always be saved or whether they can lose their salvation. This is a highly controversial topic that has sparked much discussion and debate among theologians and believers alike.
The "once saved always saved" perspective, also known as "eternal security," asserts that a genuine believer cannot lose their salvation, regardless of their actions or beliefs after conversion. This view is based on the belief that God's grace is sufficient to sustain the believer, regardless of their shortcomings.
On the other hand, the "continuance" perspective argues that salvation is contingent upon continued faith and obedience to God. This view maintains that a person's salvation is not guaranteed and can be lost through sin, apostasy, or a lack of faith. This perspective emphasizes the importance of daily living out one's faith and the need for ongoing sanctification.
End Times: Rapture Views and Pre-Tribulation
Rapture Views
The rapture, a central concept in end-times theology, envisions the bodily ascent of believers to heaven.
Multiple viewpoints exist on the timing of the rapture, leading to debates about whether it will occur before, during, or after the tribulation period.
Pre-Tribulation
The pre-tribulation view holds that believers will be removed from Earth before the seven-year period of tribulation.
Abortion versus Pro-Life Debate
Arguments for Pro-Choice
Pro-choice advocates believe in a woman's right to choose whether or not to terminate a pregnancy.
They emphasize autonomy, bodily integrity, and the right to make decisions about one's own body.
Arguments for Pro-Life
Pro-life advocates believe that abortion is morally wrong and that human life begins at conception.
They argue that the fetus is a person with a right to life, and that abortion is akin to murder.
